Symptoms and Treatment of a Female Yeast Infection
A female yeast infection is an infection of the vaginal tract and is commonly caused by a fungus called Candida albicans. This fungus is usually present in the vaginal tract; however, it will only cause an infection when the immune system is depressed or when all of the natural bacteria in the area has been killed by antibiotics. The symptoms of a female yeast infection include soreness, itching and burning of the vaginal area. The standard treatment for any type of yeast infection is an antifungal treatment. It is possible to obtain an antifungal tablet from a physician; however, many women prefer to use an over the counter yeast infection treatment because they are typically less expensive and just as easy to use.
