On Candida
- I have been on a candida diet and
vitamin program for 3 years. I feel a little better but
the moment I go off the diet all my symptoms return. My
doctor doesn't know what else to do for me. He says that
most of his other patients are in the same boat as

eliminated. Does that mean someone should not take it all
until they have cleared up their yeast?
- My chiropractor says the only way to
handle my candida is to build up my immune system so my
body can fight it. He says that what you say in your

- Is it possible that someone can have
candida even if they don't have vaginal infections?
- Is it possible to get rid of candida
by just following the diet you read about in books like
"The Yeast Connection"?

about worms. I've been a candida sufferer for years and
have been unable to clear the candida up despite seeing
several famous practitioners. Is it possible that I might
have worms?
- Is Caprylic acid really good to
handle candida?
- I was seeing you for several years
to treat my candida and parasites. While I did get very
good results and most of my symptoms cleared up and have
remained clear, the whitish coating on my tongue has
never totally cleared up. Is there anything that you can
do to help me with this?
- What can you recommend for someone
who's had candida for over fifteen years, with very
little results, but who cannot afford to come and see
someone like you?
- Recently on television there was a
news special that talked about our water being infested
with parasites. Would a healthy person have to worry
about this or is this only for sick people?
- My husband has had a rash in his
groin for years. It gets worse when he drinks beer or
eats bread. I keep telling him he has candida but he
keeps telling me there's no such thing. I'm worried that
I might get candida from him. What should I do?
- My mother-in-law is now in the
hospital. She is suffering from cancer. The doctor says
she has thrush (a disease caused by fungus and
characterized by the formation of milky white lesions on
the mouth, lips and throat) but it's nothing to worry
about. Is there anything that could be done for her in
the hospital?
- My daughter is six years old and
has been suffering from yeast infections since she was 2
1/2, when she was put on antibiotics for severe
tonsilitis. She has many other symptoms that you describe
in your articles. I brought the article to her
pediatrician who admitted that she probably had a yeast
problem but was unwilling to talk about it any further
than that. He was unwilling to tell me what I could do
about it, other than by following some diet
recommendations that you had already pointed out in the
article. Is there anything that you can tell me that I
can do for her?
- I have been seeing worms in my
stool now for several years. I have been to several
doctors. They clear up for a temporary period of time and
then they start coming back. I have many of the symptoms
that you describe in your articles about worms, as
obviously I do have them. Is there a reason that they
keep coming back and what can I do about this?
- How long does it take for someone
to get rid of candida?
- I've read articles by Dr. Hoffman
and by yourself that candida and parasites can be somewhat
synonymous with each other and that you have to eliminate
both before either will clear up. Which one is more
important to handle first?
- If someone has a milk allergy does
that mean that he has candida?
- I've read many books on the candida
diet. It's very confusing to me. Many books and diets
conflict. The biggest problem that I have is with grains.
I don't know which to eat and I find it very confusing.
What is it you recommend to patients?
- If someone is following a candida
diet, is it all right for them to drink sugar free sodas
that contain Nutrasweet?
- I would like to come see you but my
insurance company will not cover this. I have asked my
medical doctor many times if he will write a letter for
me, to my insurance company asking them to cover this,
but my doctor refuses. Why are medical doctors so opposed
to the idea of people having candida when they cause it
by giving people antibiotics?
- Do you recommend Vitamin C drips
for someone who has candida?
- I have a friend who has continual
yeast infections. Regardless of what she does or who she
sees, she continues to replapse every few months. What do
you think could be wrong with her? She's in despair and
ready to give up.
- What type of bread do you recommend
for someone who has candida?
- Can allergies and asthma be caused
by candida? And if so, what can be done?
- What foods cause candida and how
can we avoid them?
- I've recently discovered that some
of the food I was eating was developing some mold in my
refrigerator. Does this mean that I now have candida?
- Is treating candida by your method
very expensive?
- If someone has allergies and
candida, should they treat the allergies first before the
candida or treat the candida first?
- I have been studying a lot about
candida and I've read all the books. I don't believe that
I have it but I found it very fascinating because I found
my wife had it. My wife was cured by seeing a medical
doctor whom I'm sure you know, after several years of
expensive treatment. I was just wondering if you could
tell me how many people you think have candida? How has
this affected this country?
- Can candida cause cancer?
- Myself and several girlfriends have
had candida, we believe, for many years, probably since
our childhood. While we've all been on the diet that was
in "The Yeast Connection" book, for several
years, it's hard to stick to and we all occasionally go
off the diet and experience a return of our symptoms. Is
there any alternative to the candida diet that you have
found and if so, what is it?
Questions and Answers on Nutritional Breakthroughs
- Why Do
Patients Relapse?
Recent research has shown us that the majority
of patients with Candidiasis, Epstein-Barr, etc. who
relapse have parasites. This information has circulated
around for a bit of time, but has now been confirmed by
myself and other researchers. Therefore, we have now made
it standard that all Phase II programs have built in
parasite killers.
If this applies to you, be sure to come in and get on a
revised, updated Phase II program.
Recent research has shown that many women with chronic
vaginitis who do not improve on standard Candida programs
have an error in their "oxalic acid
metabolism." Oxalic acid is a substance found in
many foods. Grapefruit, spinach, tomatoes, chocolate,
rhubarb, and parsley, to name a few. These foods, due to
the body's inability to utilize the oxalic acid, may
produce similar symptoms to a vaginal yeast infection. In
most cases, however, a vaginal discharge is not present.
Itching and burning, and painful intercourse are common.
It is also possible for someone to have both "oxalic
acid vaginitis" while having Candidiasis as well.
The solution is to take the proper supplements that help
the body to utilize the oxalic acid. This can be
determined by a simple urine test done in our office.

- How
to Beat the Holiday Blues
During the holidays it is very
important to stay on your program even if you cheat on
your diet. Your program will help you avoid digestive
disturbances, fatigue, and weight gain which can occur
with the holiday partying. Here are the holiday tips for
health:
1. If you overeat, take extra digestive enzymes to help
your digestion.
2. If you get depressed, fatigued or light-headed from
sugar and treats, take GTF Chromium (available at your
local health food store), 200 mcg. per meal.
3. To avoid hangover, take 500 mg of Vitamin C, 100 mg of
Vitamin B1, 200 mg of Cysteine (available at your local
health food store) every hour while you are drinking.
Also, drink lots of water; one glass per every glass of
alcohol.
4. Sugar and alcohol both deplete magnesium. A common
symptom is waking up frequently during sleep. Supplement
with magnesium if this occurs.
5. Avoid Nutrasweet. It can cause headaches, fatigue, and
depression.
6. Increase your fiber intake if you're eating lots of
goodies. This can be in the form of raw vegetables,
fruits, or fiber supplements. This will slow down the
absorption of calories from your meal.

- What
to do if you get a bad reaction from your program.
This is our most frequently
asked question from new patients. Harmful bacteria,
parasites, or yeast, when it is killed in your system,
many times will produce a harmful side effect. Some
examples would be fever, sore throat, flu symptoms,
gastrointestinal upset, constipation, diarrhea, itching
anywhere on the body. There are additional symptoms, but
these are the most common. Toxic metals such as lead,
mercury and copper, when removed from the body (through
vitamins and special diets) can produce similar symptoms,
but also pains in the joints, metallic taste in the
mouth, headaches, fatigue, constipation, and heart
palpitations. These are really the only reasons why
anyone gets a bad reaction when taking vitamins or herbs
on any type of program. The body in some way is cleansing
itself of something harmful. Sometimes the introduction
of friendly bacteria such as acidophilus may cause gas,
bloating or constipation, when it is first taken at a
rather high dose.
The Golden Rule
whenever anyone is getting an undesirable reaction to a
vitamin or herb is to LOWER THE DOSE. The dose can be
lowered as many times as necessary to a point where the
unpleasant reactions stop. Even if you're only taking the
product once every few days. This is the most commonly
confused issue that comes up on nutritional or herbal
programs. Usually the harmful reaction is a good sign, a
sign that the body is cleansing or correcting something.
However, it could be happening faster than the body can
cope with or deal with. THE GOLDEN RULE IS: ALWAYS LOWER
THE DOSE TO WHATEVER DOSE IS NECESSARY FOR THE HARMFUL OR
UNPLEASANT REACTION TO REDUCE OR STOP, AND THEN VERY
SLOWLY BEGIN RAISING THE DOSE BACK UP.

Questions and Answers on Candida

I have been on
a candida diet and vitamin program for 3 years. I feel a
little better but the moment I go off the diet all my
symptoms return. My doctor doesn't know what else to do
for me. He says that most of his other patients are in
the same boat as myself. What should I do?
Vitamins can either
feed or spread candida. Antioxidants can prevent candida
from being eliminated by yeast killers your doctor may
also be giving you. Your doctor needs to only give you
yeast killers with no other vitamins for a few months,
before trying vitamins again.

-
In your
articles you claim that acidophilus will not work unless
yeast is first eliminated. Does that mean someone should
not take it at all until they have cleared up their
yeast?
No, it doesn't. But
I have not seen anyone who got the full lasting benefit
from acidophilus while they still had candida.
Acidophilus and bifidus will prevent candida from coming
back only:
1) after all candida, parasites and worms are gone;
2) after the bowel is fully detoxified and clean; and
3) when the digestive tract has normal amounts of
digestive enzymes to help keep the digestive tract Ph
normal.

My chiropractor
says the only way to handle my candida is to build up my
immune system so my body can fight it. He says that what
you say in your articles is not true. I've been with him
for 4 years. I trust him but I think you make sense. What
should I believe?
Your immune system
is exhausted. Your body is toxic, you have many vitamin
and mineral deficiencies from having had candida this
long, as it prevents you from being able to absorb
vitamins. Trying to stimulate your immune system now is
like whipping a dead horse. If your immune system were
able to fight your candida, it would have done it by now.
If you attack the candida directly you will take enough
stress off your immune system so to allow your immune
system to someday come back.

Is it possible that
someone can have candida even if they don't have vaginal
yeast infections?
A: Yes, this is quite possible. In fact, most
candida sufferers never have vaginal yeast infections,
particularly men. Candida can occur in the vaginal area
when the vaginal flora--meaning the balance of friendly
bacteria and organisms that protect us living in the
vaginal area- are disturbed. By disturbed I mean they
either become weakened, imbalanced or wiped out
altogether. That would allow yeast to grow in the vaginal
area, just like it would in the intestines. But someone
does not necessarily have to have vaginal infections of
any kind to have candida. In fact, we've seen many
patients with very bad intestinal candida who've never had
a vaginal infection in their life.

Is
it possible to get rid of candida by just following the
diet you read about in books like "The Yeast
Connection?
"
A: Very, very doubtful.
I have had patients come to me who have been following
the candida diet for years and years. They feel better
but the moment they go off the diet they their symptoms
return. The only way one can truly get rid of candida and
be free of it is to follow programs such as mine where we
eliminate the candida and then rebalance not only their
friendly bacteria but rebalance their immune system as
well.

- I've
recently read your article about worms. I've been a
candida sufferer for years, and have been unable to clear
the candida up despite seeing several famous
practitioners. Is it possible that I might have worms?
A: It is very, very possible. My
recent research is showing that a great many candida
sufferers actually have worms. In a study done at my own
practice, we gave many people with candida herbs that
would cause them to expel worms. At least half the people
called up saying that they were seeing worms in their
stool. Signs of worms would include rectal itching,
insatiable appetite, waking up in the middle of the night
and not being able to go back to sleep, sometimes with
rectal itching occurring too; teeth grinding, intestinal
bloating, allergies, nose picking, and anemia. Years ago,
traditional country-type doctors would immediately treat
someone for worms the moment they found out the patient
was fatigued, tired or anemic. To this day, veterinarians
will automatically treat an animal for worms if the
animal appears sluggish, has lost its appetite, or if its
coat is very poor. Right now we're investigating the
possibility that women with chronic vaginal infections
may actually have some kind of parasite or worm in the
vaginal area. This has occurred with several of our
patients, and it would explain why some women with
chronic vaginitis continue to relapse.

Is caprylic acid
really good to handle candida?
A: Caprylic acid is definitely
one of the possible products out of 50 that I know of
that could be used against candida. Caprylic acid has the
advantage of being able to coat the intestinal tract, due
to the fact that it's an oily, fatty substance, and
absorb into the intestinal membrane or cell, thereby
killing candida that's permeated into the tissues.
However, caprylic acid in actuality is not one of the
more potent killers of candida. And it also is only
effective in the intestinal tract. It cannot kill yeast
that has migrated to any other place in the body.

I was seeing you for
several years to treat my candida and parasites. While I
did get very good results and most of my symptoms cleared
up and have remained clear, the whitish coating on my
tongue has never gone away. Is there anything that you
can do to help me with this?
A: I'm glad to hear that your
symptoms have remained clear and you've been behaving
yourself. There is a substance that I've been using
recently that I've found to be very effective for this
problem. It's called Lugol's Iodine Solution. When yeast
is growing in the mouth or on the tongue, it permeates the
tissues. What I mean by that is that it digs deep in, and
literally has grown roots into your cells, just like it
does in the intestinal tract. The Lugol's Iodine
Solution is able to destroy the surface layers of yeast.
If it's used on a daily basis, it will keep destroying
the surface layers of yeast as new cells being grown on
your tongue push the yeast upward toward the surface of
your tongue. So after using for a few months, most likely
all the yeast or coating on the tongue will go away. It
must be used daily, and must be used for several months,
though. Normally this is purchased in a drugstore.

- What
can you recommend for someone who's had candida for over
fifteen years, with very little results, but who cannot
afford to come and see someone like you?
A: It is very difficult to treat
yourself. The old saying was about the doctor who had
himself as a patient had a fool for a patient. It's
difficult to be objective and also very difficult to get
any type of testing done. But my best advice to you would
be to follow the basic outline that appears in my
articles on candida treatment, and do the best you can
with it. Many of the products are available from some of
the better health food stores and pharmacies. However,
many of them are not. That's really the only advice I can
give you.

Recently on
television there was a news special that talked about our
water being infested with parasites. Would a healthy
person have to worry about this, or is this only for sick
people?
A:
Anyone can get a parasite at any time. The healthier the
person is, the stronger their digestive system is, the
more unlikely they are to actually contract the parasite.
The key thing in my new research shows that those people
who are exposed to a lot of chemical solvents and other
types of chemicals will be more apt to have parasite
eggs hatch in their intestinal tracts, and thereby cause
the parasites to harbor within. What I mean by chemical
toxins are: any chemical substance which is appearing on
the label of food, personal hair items or drinks. To give
you a list of these things in this column would be very
difficult. However, I can tell you that a key substance
which is found in jello, artificial flavors, ice cream.
personal lubricants and some other items called
benzene--which is a solvent--will dissolve the eggs of
parasites and cause them to hatch within your body. So
it's best to avoid these substances if you possibly can.

My husband has had
a rash in his groin for years. It gets worse when he
drinks beer or eats bread. I keep telling him he has
candida but he keeps telling me there's no such thing.
I'm worried that I might get candida from him. What
should I do?
A: You have a very good point, Doctor. It's very
possible that your husband does have candida. At the very
least, he has some type of fungal infection or yeast
infection on the surface of his skin. If I were you, I
would put him in another room and not let him come out
until he's willing to handle his problem. But if that
doesn't work, another thing you can do is to try and give
him some acidophilis and bifidus bacteria, to at least
ensure that he has some friendly flora. That's if he's
willing to take it. You may try to get him off the beer
and things like that, if he's willing. You could get an
over-the-counter yeast fighter from a health food store
and see if he's willing to take that. If the itching is
bothering him, there are various things you can use or
apply to the skin which may help it. I could recommend
using hydrogen peroxide, using a dilution of boric acid 2
tablespoons to a gallon of water, using a substance
called citrus seed extract, which can be diluted in water
and then washed on the area, or using other such washes.
If worst comes to worst, I'm sure he would be agreeable
to purchasing some type of over-the-counter anti-fungal
from the drug store, if he's not already doing that. But
if he's unwilling to handle it, there's really not that
much you can do.

My mother-in-law is
now in the hospital. She's suffering from cancer. The
doctor says she has thrush but it's nothing to worry
about. Is there anything that could be done for her in
the hospital?
A: The fact that your mother-in-law has cancer
and has now developed thrush is definitely not a good
sign. I disagree with your doctor that it's nothing to
worry about, because thrush would be a sign that the
chemotherapy or radiation treatment that she might be
receiving is really destroying her immune system. When
someone starts to develop thrush to the point where a
doctor will announce that they have thrush, they're
usually in very bad shape. I would go back and
interrogate the doctor as to what is happening with her.
You may want to insist that you're allowed to give her
some anti-fungal remedies from the health food store. I
would avoid giving her any type of medical drugs for this
condition, because if she's already weakened with cancer,
medical drugs which are anti-fungal could actually worsen
her condition since they're very toxic. I wish her
the best.

about it, other than following some diet
recommendations that you had already pointed out in the
article. Is there anything that you can tell me that I
can do for her?
A: It's a terrible thing when someone has a
child who's suffering from such a condition. There are
certain substances which can be given to a child in low
doses, which may clear up their yeast condition. It's
very easy for children to take a product called Flora
Balance, which can be purchased in the health food store.
It's essentially tasteless and doesn't necessarily
produce a very strong reaction. Other remedies that we
use on children sometimes are very foul tasting and can
produce some reactions. Flora Balance is the best one to
start with. What you would do is give her approximately
half the recommended adult dose, and continue that for
three months. If she's good on her diet and understands
why she has these problems, there's a good possibility
that she'll comply and reverse the situation. Once that's
reversed, you should get her children's Entrin Bifidus,
which is a type of bacteria made for children.

- I
have been seeing worms in my stool now for several years.
I have been to several doctors. They clear up for a
temporary period of time and then they start coming back.
I have many of the symptoms that you describe in your
articles about worms, as obviously I do have them. Is
there a reason that they keep coming back, and what can I
do about this?
A: Yes, there is something you
can do about it, and there's a good chance that you might
be able to clear these things up. If you call a company
called Emerson Ecologics (phone number 800-654-4432) and
order three products. One is called Wormwood Capsules,
another is Pale Green Black Walnut, and the third is
Cloves Capsules. If you take these products as
recommended there's a good chance that your worms may
clear up. There are two main things regarding worms. 1)
The eggs of worms may not be destroyed by most
medications or most substances. Even the most powerful
medications that destroy worms don't destroy all types of
worms and surely don't destroy their eggs. As stated in
my article, I have found that it is only really freshly
ground cloves, ground into a powder, which is able to
destroy the eggs of worms, thereby ridding you of the
condition. However, in this day and age it's very
possible that you could be continually picking up new
parasites and worms if you're eating any type of meat,
chicken or fish that is undercooked. I recommend that you
eat these foods sparingly, maybe even become a vegetarian
for awhile, and when you do eat flesh foods, eat it very
well done.

How long does it
take for someone to get rid of candida?
A: That's a very difficult
question to answer, because it takes different people
different lengths of time depending on what other
complications they might have, or other medical
conditions they have. But in general it should take
someone six to eight months to not only get rid of the
candida, but be building up their immune system so that
they're feeling much better. They still may need to be on
a maintenance dose of certain supplements that kill
candida or parasites for quite some time, however. Due to
the fact that we are all being bombarded with parasites
constantly from the food, the water, and each other, I
have now found it necessary to recommend to all my
patients that they remain on some type of anti-fungal or
yeast killer for a minimal period of at least three
months, after it appears that their candida has been
eliminated, just to ensure that it is totally gone. In
the past I did not do this as I did not see that it was
necessary. But recent data on the prevalence of parasites
in our environment and food have made this necessary.

I've read articles
by Dr. Hoffman and by yourself that candida and parasites
can be someone synonymous with each other, and that you
have to eliminate both before either will clear up. Which
one is more important to handle first?
A: Dr. Hoffman is totally right.
He's been saying this for years, and it is true.
Parasites must be cleared up in order for candida to be
cleared up. Candida must be cleared up in order for
parasites to be cleared up. However, which is more
important is an interesting subject. It would depend on
which was more prevalent. In a case where the candida
seems to be the more prevalent infection, the candida
should be addressed first as that is giving the immune
system the most amount of stress. In the case where
parasites are the predominant infection, the parasites
would need to be addressed first. So, it would really
depend on the individual person. But it is totally
correct that in order to eliminate candida, parasites
must be dealt with. However, it is a matter of your
doctor's experience and wisdom which one he chooses to
address first.

If someone has a
milk allergy does that mean that he has candida?
A: No, that doesn't mean they
have candida. People have had milk allergies long before
antibiotics or candida were every discovered.

I've read many
books on the candida diet. It's very confusing to me.
Many of the books and diets conflict. The biggest problem
that I have is with grains. I don't know which to eat,
and I find it very confusing. What is it you recommend to
your patients?
A: As far as grains go, what I've found from
experience is that the grains that seem to be the most
sensitive or the most reactive to people with candida is
wheat, oats and barley. This is because of their gluten
content. I find most of my patients can tolerate other
grains, in fact, all of them except wheat, oats and
barley. Despite the fact that rye also appears to have
gluten, candida patients seem to tolerate it better than
wheat, oats and barley. This is what I have found to be
true. However, it is an individual thing. Someone who has
an allergy to a food that is not normally avoided for
candida patients, should avoid that particular food,
because the allergy will cause an imbalance in their
immune system. It is an individual situation.

-
If someone is
following a candida diet, is it all right for them to
drink sugar free sodas that contain Nutrasweet?
A: I don't believe that
Nutrasweet is a healthy substance. Many people who use
Nutrasweet report many different types of side effects,
mostly headaches. I think it's very possible that yeast
cells may actually figure out a way to use Nutrasweet as
some type of food, as they themselves are very ambitious
creatures, and very adaptive. I generally recommend that
people avoid Nutrasweet, and avoid anything that is sweet
if they have candida.

I would like to
come and see you, but my insurance company will not cover
this. I have asked my medical doctor many times if he
will write a letter for me, to my insurance company,
asking them to cover this, but he refuses. Why are
medical doctors so against the idea of people having
candida, when they cause it by giving people antibiotics.
A: You
have a very good question here, which is hard for me to
answer without probably insulting a lot of people. But I
think my best advice to you is don't wait for your
insurance company to wake up and decide that they want to
help you. Insurance coverage is not something that you
should rely on to get well. Insurance coverage is a
luxury. It is not necessarily a necessity when it comes
to doing something about your health. Your health is more
important. That's the best answer I have for you.

Do you recommend
Vitamin C drips for someone who has candida?
A: To be honest with you, no, I
do not recommend Vitamin C drips for people who have
candida until after they've eliminated their candida and
are now either on the third or fourth phase of my
program. The reason for this is that Vitamin C drips
really won't do anything to eliminate candida. What we're
attempting to do with Vitamin C drips, when one has
candida, is to whip a dead horse of the immune system,
which has already failed in eliminating the candida.
Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant. It has been shown that
antioxidant vitamins can nullify the effects of herbs
and remedies which are used to kill candida. So, for that
reason I do not recommend it. It may make people feel
better, however, to receive Vitamin CA drips, especially
if they are chemically sensitive, toxic or have candida.
This is because it helps detoxify their body. It will
not, however, rid them of the candida.

I have a friend who
has continual yeast infections. Regardless of what she
does or who she sees, she continues to relapse every few
months. What do you think could be wrong with her? She's
in despair and ready to give up.
A: Most likely what is wrong
with your friend is that she has toxic metals. I say this
because over the last few years I have been doing
additional research into toxic metals. The laboratory
that I use is able to detect over forty different
elements from the hair, and report on them. Because of
this we get to see a very broad spectrum of what minerals
and metals a person is accumulating in his body. I have
consistently seen that those patients who continually
relapse with candida have elevations in metals such as
lead, cadmium, mercury, copper, aluminum and other such
metals. These metals can affect your immune system. They
do that by blocking the functions of normal nutritional
elements such as zinc, selenium and other important
nutrients, and vitamins. The other thing I find
consistently in people who repeatedly relapse with candida
is that they have parasites or worms, and this is not
known. I myself did not fully appreciate how common
parasites and worms were until the last year. And the
more work I do in this area on a daily basis, the
stronger my conviction is becoming that those people with
candida who constantly relapse have undetected parasites
and worms that no labs, including mine, have been able
to find. I am now working on new urine and saliva tests
which may indicate these infections, or give us evidence
that the infections are present, even though laboratories
may continually miss the infection. I have tremendous
respect for Doctors Bueno and Parrish from Manhattan, who
have pioneered the detection of parasites through rectal
swab analysis. They take the swab of rectal mucus and
examine it immediately, which gives a much higher
detection rate than any other method. In cases where even
they miss these organisms, the laboratory that I use has
certain very advanced techniques and tests that indicate
the presence of parasites, even if the parasites
themselves may not be found. So one way or another we can
detect them.

What type of bread
do you recommend for someone who has candida?
A: The type of bread that I
recommend for someone who has candida would generally be
a multi-grain bread which contains no yeast and no
additives or sweeteners of any kind. I also recommend
yeast free rye bread for people with candida. The more
natural, the better, as people with candida tend to have
a lot of chemical sensitivities. I find these products
work well on these people. However, one should still not
over indulge.

Can allergies and
asthma be caused by candida? And if so, what can be done?
A: Allergies and asthma
definitely can be caused by candida. Many years ago I
noticed several asthmatic patients of mine had their
asthma clear up or improve greatly when they were on
candida programs. Exactly what the mechanism is behind
this I cannot say. It's very possible that the asthma is
being caused by an allergic reaction caused by the
internal yeast in one's system. The same could be true
with allergies. It could be that the allergies are being
provoked by the person's constant reaction to the poisons
that the yeast is releasing into the system. The best
solution for this is to eliminate the yeast, and then
avoid the foods that one has become allergic to, until
one's body can desensitize to these foods.

What foods cause
candida, and how can we avoid them?
A: There are no foods that cause
candida. There are no yeasts in foods that cause candida.
Candida is caused only by having one's immune system
depressed or having one's intestinal flora disturbed.
There are no foods, unless they have been contaminated,
which normally contain candida. The yeasts that are found
in foods are not harmful yeasts. These are dead yeasts,
and these yeasts cannot cause infections. Anyone who says
that they took GTF chromium, which contains live yeast
cultures, and therefore now has yeast living in their
body, or who says that they have eaten bread with yeast
and now has yeast in their body, or who says they took
brewer's yeast and now has yeast living in their
body doesn't know what they're talking about! Yeasts
that are found in foods are dead yeasts. What's more,
they are food yeasts. They do not cause infections. There
are no foods, to my knowledge, that have ever caused
candida in anyone unless that food itself was a toxic
waste dump. Eating sugar or sweets do not cause candida.
Eating and sugar and sweets can worsen candida, can cause
candida to grow to excess if one already has an
overgrowth of candida, but they do not cause candida.

- I've
recently discovered that some of the food I was eating
was developing some mold in my refrigerator. Does this
mean that I now have candida?
A: Dear C.Y., This does not
necessarily mean that you have candida. It's actually
very hard to say what it means except that you should
throw this food away.
Certain molds, as you
know, are used to make certain foods like cheese. Molds
are used to make penicillin and antibiotics. So ingesting
molds is not necessarily going to give someone candida.
If your digestive system has destroyed these molds with
hydrochloric acid, it may not be a problem. You may want
to have a stool culture done to see whether or not there
is any problem in your system.
In your letter you did
not really say how you were feeling, or whether you had
any reactions to this. So perhaps you'd want to write me
back with more information.

- Is
treating candida by your method very expensive?
A: Well, that's a tough question
to answer because it varies from person to person. In
some people, it can be very expensive. But this, of course,
depends on what other complications they have. For some
people it is relatively inexpensive. But I guess it would
depend on what one considers expensive. Most of the
supplements used to treat candida can be limited to
perhaps $100 a month, which I don't necessarily consider
that expensive compared to some other vitamin programs
I've heard about. It can be limited to $100 a month, but
it could go as high as $300 a month. It really would
depend on the individual and their situation.

- If
someone has allergies and candida, should they treat the
allergies first before the candida, or treat the candida
first?
A: If someone has allergies and candida, the
odds are is that their candida is causing the allergies,
so they would always want to treat the candida first.
Many people report the allergies going away when they
eliminate their candida.

- I
have been studying a lot about candida and I've read all
the books. I don't believe that I have it, but I found it
very fascinating because I found my wife had it. My wife
was cured of it by seeing a medical doctor whom I'm sure
you know, after several years of expensive treatment. I
was just wondering if you could tell me how many people
you think have candida? How has this affected this
country?
A: Dear P.P., It's been estimated by the Candida
Research Foundation that approximately one out of three
people has candida. As far as I know, that's a pretty
good estimate. I think we can say that, at any given time,
one out of three people probably has it. Of course,
people are getting rid of it, but there are more people
contracting it right now than people who are eliminating
it. A lot of people are dealing with it, but not everyone
eliminates it. Eliminating it is a harder thing.

- Can
candida cause cancer?
A: There are doctors and
practitioners who believe this is true. In several
popular books about candida, it has been mentioned that
candida might have been responsible for causing cancer in
certain people. The cancers that are usually mentioned
are those of the reproductive system, particularly in
women cervical cancer, cancer in the uterus and ovaries
have been mentioned. Whether it definitely 100% does or
not hasn't been proven.

- Myself
and several girlfriends have had candida, we believe, for
many years, probably since our childhood. While we've all
been on the diet that was in "The Yeast
Connection" book, for several years, it's very hard
to stick to and we all occasionally go off the diet and
experience a return of our symptoms. Is there any
alternative to the candida diet that you have found, and
if so, what is it?
A: The best alternative to the
candida diet is to follow the diet strictly for a few
months and plan on doing that while you're on a program
that can destroy the candida. Diet alone will not do
that.
I've had a few patients
who were vegetarians who were being treated for candida
for quite some time, well over a year. While they
experienced some improvements, they didn't fully recover
until they combined the diet with the existing treatment.
I've also had some patients who did not follow the diet
very well at all but still got better. So I would have to
say it is an individual thing.
